How to get eBay cashback
A repeatable, 10-minute setup that pays you back on every eBay order you make for the rest of the year.

eBay is one of the last big marketplaces where you can genuinely earn 5–20% back on ordinary purchases — not through a hidden hack, but by combining tools most shoppers already know about. The problem is that those tools only work if you use them in the right order. This guide walks through the exact sequence.
1Pick the highest-paying cashback portal for eBay right now
A cashback portal (also called a "rebate site" or "shopping portal") is a website that has an affiliate deal with eBay. When you click their tracked link to eBay and buy something, eBay pays the portal a commission and the portal shares part of it with you as cashback.
The four we track most closely for eBay in the US are:
- Rakuten — usually 1–3%, occasional 6% spikes during holidays.
- TopCashback — historically among the higher headline rates.
- Capital One Shopping — free, no Capital One card required.
- Mr. Rebates — smaller but competitive on certain categories.
Rates change constantly. Check today's rate on each before you buy — never assume last month's number still applies.
2Create and verify your portal account
Sign up with the email address you actually check. Payouts require a verified email and, for larger amounts, a linked PayPal, bank account or gift card address. Doing this before your first purchase avoids losing cashback to an "unverified account" flag later.
3Always click through to eBay from the portal
This is the single most-broken step. Cashback tracks only when the portal's affiliate cookie is set in the same browser session you check out from.
Before you click through:
- Pause ad blockers and privacy extensions for eBay.com.
- Sign out of any other shopping extensions (Honey, Ibotta, Karma).
- Close other eBay tabs — you want a fresh session.
Then click the portal's "Shop at eBay" button. You'll land on eBay's homepage. From this point on, treat that tab as sacred: don't navigate to eBay from Google or your bookmarks — you'd overwrite the tracking cookie.
4Shop and check out in one session
Add items to your cart and check out. If you have to leave and come back, return via the portal link again — not a direct URL. Guest checkouts still work; you don't need to be signed into eBay for the portal cashback itself (though eBay Bucks does require a signed-in account).
5Layer additional rewards on the same order
Stacking is where casual cashback becomes serious money back:
- Apply an eBay coupon code. eBay drops "extra 15% off" sitewide codes several times a month, usually mid-cycle.
- Pay with a rewards credit card. A flat 2% cashback card or a 3–5x category card compounds on top of portal cashback.
- Redeem eBay Bucks. US buyers enrolled in eBay Bucks earn a small percentage back in future eBay credit.
Read our full 4-layer stacking playbook for how these interact.
6Confirm the cashback actually tracked
Most portals show a "pending" cashback entry within 24–72 hours. If your order isn't listed after 7 days, file a missing cashback claimfrom your account. You'll usually need:
- eBay order number.
- Order total (pre-tax and post-tax).
- Approximate click-through time.
Legitimate portals honor these claims when they can prove eBay attributed the sale — which is why step 3 matters so much.
Common pitfalls that kill eBay cashback
- Applying a coupon from a third party. Some portals void tracking when a non-eBay coupon fires.
- Buying from certain sellers. A handful of eBay categories (gift cards, some motors) are excluded.
- Modifying an order. Cancellations, address changes and returns can zero out pending cashback.
- Multiple extensions competing for the same cookie. Only one shopping extension should be active per session.
FAQ
Can I use two cashback portals at once?
No — only the last-clicked portal's cookie tracks. Pick the higher rate.
How long until eBay cashback pays out?
Pending balances typically confirm 30–90 days after purchase to allow for eBay's return window, then become withdrawable.
Does eBay cashback work on mobile?
Yes, either through the portal's mobile app (recommended) or by tapping the portal's link in a mobile browser. Do not switch to the eBay app mid-flow.
